UMass Medical School is looking for an experienced Retail Services Manager who will be responsible for the overall daily operations of the University of Massachusetts Medical School Bookstore. The manager ensures that the Book Store serves as a resource to the institution through products and services offered, and operates with the proper balance of merchandise selection, customer service, and price points. This position requires a Bachelors Degree in Business or equivalent experience. Three years retail management experience including purchasing, inventory control and merchandising. Working knowledge of retail accounting practices. Excellent communication skills both oral and written. Sufficient manual dexterity to operate cash register. Physical stamina to lift 50 pound boxes and ability to stand for long periods of time.Major responsibilities include providing customer service to a diverse customer base, including faculty, students and staff. Work collaboratively with faculty to ensure textbooks are available for the (3) schools (Medical School, Graduate School of Nursing and the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences) in a timely manner for all classes and or special orders. Handle all ordering for resale including textbooks, books, insignia clothing, gift items and any additional items as needed. Create and maintain a marketing strategy for bookstore items and services.Develop and distribute informational materials for the bookstore to all UMMS locations at the main campus and offsite locations.Hire, train, manage and evaluates bookstore staff; directs staff in operations functions; and provide staff development as needed.Analyze financials to determine departmental performance and prepare routine reports; reconciliation of all cash/credit card and inventory transactions.Prepare annual budget, makes adjustments in consultation with the Director of Auxiliary Services or designee.Requirements: We offer an excellent benefits package including work/life balance programs consisting of meals-to-go, offsite UMass run day care centers, nursing mother rooms, lunchtime seminars and 3 dry cleaning drop off sites.
