Duties And Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Assistant Director for Online Communications, the Online Communications Coordinator guides the Law School's efforts to build, strengthen and maintain a robust online community. Consisting of approximately 33,000 alumni, 1,900 students, 750 admitted students, and 600 faculty and staff, the HLS community spans all 50 states and more than 100 countries around the world. The Online Communications Coordinator will work with various Law School departments to help implement a social networking application that serves the community in many ways, including career networking and more social connections. The Online Communications Coordinator will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of the social networking application. Specific tasks will include, but not be limited to, posting school announcements and events, writing "how-to" documentation for the HLS community, organize user communities, moderate forums, and create blogs. Additional responsibilities include being the school's in-house expert on all social networking features, as well as learning new features when implemented. The Online Communications Coordinator will also assist with other web related tasks and projects as needed.
Required Education, Experience and Skills:
The successful candidate must possess a bachelor's degree, plus five or more years of related work experience. Knowledge of modern web tools and design applications such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Fireworks, and Flash is required. Additional qualifications: Knowledge of HTML and CSS is strongly desired. A familiarity with using and creating web communities is essential. Excellent communication and organizational skills are important, including the ability to write and edit text for web use. Well-developed problem-solving ability and critical thinking skills is a must. Strong interpersonal communication skills as working well with other departments and users of the social network application will be a key aspect of this job. The candidate must have an ability to work both independently and as a member of a team in a busy office; to prioritize tasks from multiple sources; and to meet deadlines. S/he must have superior attention to detail.
The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about current social networking software and related online tools, including web portals and broadcast email. S/he must be able to work successfully across departments and programs within the Law School, including Alumni Relations, Student Services, Admissions, Communications, and Information Technology Services. The ability to understand the needs of multiple audiences is essential. Experience working with outside vendors and consultants is important, including the ability to set project milestones and keep both internal and external team members on time and on budget. Familiarity with online giving and event registration applications is a plus.
