DESCRIPTION:Serve as senior level programmer and technical expert for Grid applications and workflows for the Community Cyberinfrastructure for Advanced Marine Microbial Ecology and Analysis (CAMERA) project. Incumbent will work closely with domain scientists to understand application constraints and requirements. Incumbent will be responsible for architecting, implementing and deploying service-based grid applications and workflows based on these requirements. Incumbent will also provide technical expertise to scientists in High Performance Computing, Distributed Systems, and Grid computing. The incumbent will use creative problem solving and hands-on interaction with groups internal and external to UCSD to support the overall research goals of the CAMERA project.CAMERA is large-scale cyberinfrastructure project established to serve the needs of the microbial ecology research community by creating a rich, distinctive data repository and a bioinformatics tools resource that will address many of the unique challenges of metagenomic analysis. The Project is funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.QUALIFICATIONS:* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related scientific field or a comparable combination of education and work experience.* Advanced and demonstrated knowledge network protocols and linux/unix internals. Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing network-aware tools.* Expert knowledge of major key grid components such as Globus, Condor, the network weather service, the storage resource broker, MPICH-G, gsi-enabled ssh, and other major gird computing infrastructures.* Ability to adapt existing expertise to an emerging web- and grid-services based software infrastructure.* Advanced Knowledge of operating systems including advanced distributed systems designs fault tolerance, replication and performance management.Excellent benefits that start the first day of hire.
