Duties and Responsibilities:

Appointment at the rank of preceptor in connection with a large introductory course in Chemistry and Chemical Biology. A Preceptor will have the responsibility for designing and supervising the laboratory and discussion section components of the course.  Supervises and trains a large teaching fellow staff on weekly sections.  Acts as primary liaison between instructional staff and laboratory support group. Works with faculty to prepare problem sets and written examinations.  Oversee teaching fellows and course administration. Coordinates with faculty to develop innovative teaching materials. Possible part-time status considered. The position is a twelve-month appointment with the possibility of renewal up to eight years for superior performance in the position. 

 

Required Education:

Ph.D. in Chemistry with strong training in Organic Chemistry and Chemical Biology or closely allied field and proven experience teaching undergraduate students in science.  Superior organizational, written and interpersonal communication skills are key.  Ability to lead and train teaching fellows and to develop innovative instructional materials.  Experience in designing problem sets and laboratory exercises strongly preferred.  Salary range 45-50K/year.
