GENERAL FUNCTIONS: The purpose of this position is to verify that the PeopleSoft modules operate efficiently, effectively and as designed. Incumbent will provide an accurate estimate and report of test progress. Tests software releases during product development phase and develops strategies for automated testing tools. Reports test results and enters problems and issues into the bug database. Monitors and updates bug reports as needed including bug report closure; Configures necessary hardware and operating environments as needed to complete assigned testing; Provides technical expertise on specific products, operating systems and specialized environments; Writes or assists in the development of test plans and test procedures; Completes assigned test-related tasks Manages the defect database; Automates relevant test procedures; Assists in the review of test processes as they are developed. Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or closely related field and three (3) years of relevant experience or the equivalent combination of seven (7) years combined relevant education and experience. Experience testing computer software as well as familiarity with testing methodologies and the defect reporting process required. Education or experience in PeopleSoft HCM or FMS systems highly desired. Knowledge of the principles, practices and methodologies of software testing and defect reporting process; Knowledge of relational database systems, programming languages, source control systems, and networking and communications protocol; Knowledge and understanding of current information technology (IT) and computer science concepts, issues, practices, methodologies and trends, particularly those relevant to database testing; Knowledge of PC and accompanying user-friendly associated word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation, etc. software as well as SQL and Linux/UNIX-based operating systems; Demonstrated skill in network and PC configuration with ability to troubleshoot and test network and PC hardware and software as related to PeopleSoft; Skill in organization and interpersonal relations necessary to work effectively with a wide variety of clients, outside consultants and vendors; Skill in communicating clearly and effectively in oral, written or graphic form; Skill in analyzing problems and completing detailed reports; Ability to methodically produce the steps which exhibit bugs in the product and be able to reproduce and communicate these steps; Ability to show initiative in gaining in-dept experience in areas of technology relevant to testing of University automated products; Ability to work well in a team environment and to adapt to the changing needs of a project; Ability to meet deadlines while delivering good customer service to clients and sufficient English skills to communicate complex information to peers as well as non-technical staff; Ability to establish work priorities, manage workload independently and to learn new technical skills quickly by continuing to gain theoretical knowledge in software testing and reporting; Ability to maintain harmonious work relationships with staff, students, faculty and University officials and the general public.
