President, Manhattan College

Manhattan College seeks an imaginative and inspiring leader to guide it to a new level of institutional accomplishment.  Established in 1853, the College is founded upon the Lasallian Catholic tradition of excellence in teaching, respect for individual dignity, and commitment to social justice inspired by the innovator of modern pedagogy, St. John Baptist de La Salle. 

The mission of Manhattan College is to provide a contemporary, person-centered educational experience characterized by high academic standards, reflection on faith, values and ethics, and life-long career preparation. The academic programs integrate a broad liberal education with concentration in specific disciplines in the arts and sciences or with professional preparation in business, education and engineering. The learning experience at Manhattan College is enriched by cooperative programs with other institutions, by postgraduate professional programs and by capitalizing on its location in the cultural center and global marketplace that is New York City.

This is a time of great opportunity at Manhattan College. The current president is retiring after 22 years of successful leadership and great accomplishment. The college has become more selective while increasing its enrollment to 3500 students (3000 undergraduates), broadening its geographic reach, transforming its campus from commuter based to residential, and preserving its commitment to serving first generation students. It has strengthened its academic offerings and recently completed a successful $150 million campaign celebrating its 150th anniversary.  The college aspires now to a broad new level of performance, increasing its endowment, its diversity, and its selectivity, while sustaining its Lasallian heritage and mission.

Manhattan College seeks in its new president a leader with a creative, entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for the success of smaller colleges. Strong fund-raising ability is essential.  Demonstrated success leading a complex enterprise, experience guiding an organization through growth and change, and evidence of effective financial management are also required. 

 

The Board of Trustees has named a nine member Presidential Search Committee composed of representatives of the College’s board, faculty, and staff.  Isaacson, Miller, a national executive search firm, has been retained to assist in the recruitment of the new President.
