As a member of the New Student Programs (NSP) unit http://newstudentprograms.cornell.edu/ of the Office of the Dean of Students, support the delivery of programs, services, and initiatives that enhance the First-Year Experience such as: Orientation, First-Year Parents' Weekend, and the Carol Tatkon Center. The Program Assistant provides logistical, administrative and creative, design support for NSP through designing and assisting in the development of university-wide publications such as the New Student Orientation guides and Family Guide; developing and designing promotional and informational materials for the Carol Tatkon Center; managing logistics for a wide range of programs from small-group programs to high-profile, large, university-wide events; scheduling use of the Carol Tatkon Center space; and providing executive administrative support to the NSP Associate Dean of Students. In this role, you will: Work as part of a close team with the New Student Programs Professional staff. Interact frequently via phone, email, and in person with faculty, staff, students, alumni, families, community partners, vendors, and others in a manner that represents the goals and mission of New Student Programs. Exercise independent, high-level decision making abilities when interacting with internal and external constituents. Coordinate logistics for events and activities of all sizes (from Study Abroad Information Session for 15, to Housing Information Session for 150, to President's annual New Student Convocation for over 5000 new students and families),including room reservations and layouts, multimedia requirements, communications, presenter logistics, and tracking expenditures Throughout the year, maintain complex program calendars for Orientation, First-Year Parents' Weekend, and the Carol Tatkon Center. Manage and update large databases required for programs within New Student Programs including databases for managing over 600 student volunteers, various campus-wide committees, friends of New Studen Programs/Carol Tatkon Center, and alumni. Compile information for, design, and produce publications and media pieces for Orientation, First-Year Parents' Weekend, and the Carol Tatkon Center, including fall and spring New Student Orientation Guide, annual Family Guide, online Family Handbook, and publicity pieces for Carol Tatkon Center programs. In absence of the Carol Tatkon Center Assistant Director, serve as backup during the work day for trouble shooting operational issues. Provide general administrative support for the Associate Dean of Students, New Student Programs.
Associate's degree required with a minimum of three years experience in a program-driven, fast-paced office setting or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Impeccable attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to perform multiple, concurrent projects and meet tight deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent computer skills and experience with a variety of programs including Filemaker, Pagemaker/InDesign, Excel,Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, HTML, Powerpoint, Web and email. Experience working with publication design and creation and proven design creativity required. Must be able to respond quickly, use sound judgment in communications, and display a high level of tact and diplomacy while interacting with diverse constituencies from many organizations both on and off campus. Must work equally well independently and within a team environment. Position requires some pre-planned irregular work hours (evenings and/or weekends) during peak times, such as at the beginning of the semester. Bachelor's degree preferred. No relocation assistance is provided for this position.
