Program Chair - Education

 

The Program Chair is a member of the faculty appointed to be the academic and administrative leader of a specific program (or programs) offered at a campus. The Program Chair is responsible to the campus Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Campus President, and/or the College Dean for the efficient and effective operation of their assigned program. The Program Chair is responsible for fulfilling all duties in conformity with the policies and procedures the University as well as those processes and mechanisms developed within the campus at which the program is offered.

 

Key Job Elements

1. Lead the program faculty in the development, implementation, and oversight of BA/BS, MAED, EdS, and EdD degree programs.

2. Manage the operations of the program.

3. Recruit, supervise, train, develop, and evaluate full-time, part-time and adjunct faculty.

4. Play an integral role in the growth of the program, enrollment and field training sites.

5. Provide effective leadership, both within the program and throughout the University.

6. Participate in the chairs meetings held by the College Dean and actively contribute to the work of this group.

7. Engage in public relations with regard to organizations impacted by the program; serve as liaison with the local professional community, K-12 schools, colleges, and the public.

8. Carry out other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Academic Affairs, College Dean or Campus President.

 

Job Requirements:

Knowledge:

a) Minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral experience.

b) Experience in education and training in the discipline of the program.

c) Evidence of management experience or potential

d) Educational Requirements: Doctoral degree in Education or related discipline (PhD or EdD)

e) Online teaching experience

f) Other requirements specific to the discipline

 

Skills:

a) Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

b) Strong interpersonal skills with both faculty and student population.

c) Superior organizational and problem resolution skills.

d) Strong basic computer software (MS Office) skills as well as field related hardware and software packages and systems for reporting features.

e) Ability to read, analyze, and interpret accreditation criteria, state agency regulations, and academic journals.

 

Abilities:

a) Ability to interact effectively as a member of a team and work collaboratively with other departments.

b) Ability to listen to customers (e.g. students, staff, etc.) and to understand and respond positively to their requests.

c) Ability to work without close supervision and to set one’s own priorities and work schedule.
