Hours: 30 hours/week during school year, 40 hours/week during summer

Salary: Grade H-6, $32,460 (Union Position)

 

 

General Summary:

This is a supervisory and participatory position in directing children’s activities associated with the community’s parks and recreation department programs. The job environment includes indoor and outdoor programs with fields, courts, playgrounds, and multi-use play areas. 

 

The purpose of this position is to perform supervisory, managerial, and administrative duties for a variety of continuing Recreation Department services and activities for the Town of Manchester-by-the-Sea. Incumbent plans, organizes, coordinates and administers the Hornets After School Program, plans, organizes, coordinates and administers the Summer Playground Program and works with the Director of Parks & Recreation to create and implement new Recreation programs in the Town of Manchester-by-the-Sea. Position works under the general supervision of the Director of Parks & Recreation. Supervises and manages seasonal recreation staff and volunteers. Position will frequently work nights, weekends and holidays.

 

Essential Job Functions:

Must be at least 21 years of age.





Responsible for the supervision, development, scheduling, and implementation of the Hornets After School Program for children in Grades K- 6.





Responsible for the supervision, development, scheduling, and implementation of the Summer Playground program for children in Grades K - 8.





Knowledge of sports, games, and arts & crafts.





Must possess strong program planning skills.





Must possess effective leadership skills and crisis management skills.





The Program Coordinator will assist in the preparation of a variety of brochures, calendars, letters, posters, news releases, flyers, and related communications used to promote town activities and events.





The Program Coordinator will assist in the coordination of sports programs, registration of participants for seasonal activities and the collection of registration fees. 





Responsible for recruiting participants in the Hornets After School program and the Summer Playground program. 





Assists in the recruitment, interviewing and supervision of approximately 50 seasonal employees.





Responsible for the creation and implementation of new Recreation programs.

 

Minimum Entrance Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Recreation, Physical Education, Health/Business Administration or a closely related educational field.

 

Fifteen years of childcare experience with at least eight years of experience managing and supervising childcare programs.

 

Must be able to qualify as an Administrator of School Aged Childcare programs under the Massachusetts Department of Early Education & Care regulations.

 

Must be certified in CPR/AED and Standard First Aid.

 

Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

 

Ability to motivate and continue to inspire the best efforts of others.

 

Professional administrative skills including strong interpersonal communication skills, writing skills, as well as solid computer skills.

 

Strong supervisory skills in a recreational environment.

 

Or any equivalent combination of related experience and education.
