Program Director (KEYBOARD Department Head)

Musicians Institute is currently looking for a highly motivated, results oriented Program Director (Department Head) to work in our busy and growing school. 

 

Musicians Institute is a contemporary school of music located in Hollywood, California.  We prepare our students for careers in the music industry as recording artists, performers, sound engineers, promoters and managers.  Our students arrive with a passion for music and leave with the practical knowledge, technical skills and hands-on experience that it takes to transform their aspirations into careers.

Duties and Responsibilities

Oversee all functions of a keyboard education program, provide leadership to the department, and coordinate with other programs.

 

CURRICULUM and PROGRAM

· Maintain overall effectiveness and direction of program

· Supervise development and maintenance of effective core curriculum

· Supervise authors to maintain consistency in quality and philosophy

· Supervise and approve the development and teaching of departmental elective curriculum

· Supervise overall entrance, testing, and performance standards within accreditation compliance guidelines

· Supervise testing, grading, and attendance records

 

EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

· Advise the Director of Education on the following department-specific areas:

· Teacher class assignments and budget allocation (including faculty, equipment, and facilities)

· Daily scheduling issues, including rescheduling, substitutes and cancellations

· New hires, reassignments, and terminations

· Teacher evaluation and training

· Teaching salary guidelines

· Teaching-related employment policies

· Supervise scheduling and duties of department-specific visiting faculty STUDENT ISSUES

· Counsel special problems and complaints

· Oversee dropout prevention and student counseling procedures

· Determine status of appeals cases

 

SCHOOL OPERATIONS

· Conduct regular faculty meetings and maintain communication with staff

· Assist in communicating the educational and business philosophy of MI to the teaching staff

· Work with other departments to insure smooth department operations and proper representation of department interests within MI

· Assist in developing effective departmental publicity and promotions

 

QUALIFICATIONS

· Ability to communicate clearly and effectively one-on-one or in group meetings

· Ability to work closely with supervisor and other department heads to develop policies

· Ability to counsel students and explain the program and school policies in detail

· Problem-solving ability, attention to detail, follow-through, and ability to work under pressure

· Computer word-processing and e-mail skills
