Duties And Responsibilities:

 

Working with researchers in the Program in Health Decision Science at the Harvard School of Public Health as part of a larger team, the Programmer supports the efforts of two faculty members in development of microsimulation models and enhancement of Matlab and C++ models used to conduct cost-effectiveness analyses. The programmer reports to faculty about assessment of programming needs, objectives, functions, features and input/output requirements. Analyzes, defines and documents requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, internal and external checks and controls. Writes and maintains technical specifications of models. Customizes and codes user interfaces, printed outputs, and interfaces with other systems/programs. Converts designs and specifications into computer code. Compiles code into programs and corrects errors detected during compile process. Works with Research Assistants to test and debug model code and confirm program meets specifications. Writes and maintains documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, testing, changes and corrections/updates to facilitate communication among team members. Writes or reviews documentation written by Research Assistants that describes installation and operating procedures. Monitors and enhances performance of program after implementation.

Required Education, Experience and Skills:

 

A Masters degree in Computer Science and 3+ years experience in programming in C++, or equivalent required. Required: Experience defining requirements by conferring with end users, preparing specifications, writing program code in C++ and testing of code. The candidate must be self-motivated, proactive and have solid team and interpersonal skills. S/he must be highly organized and possess excellent analytic, verbal and written communication skills. Additional Qualifications: Familiarity with web-based interfaces, statistical modeling tools such as STATA or Matlab a plus.
