Reactor Project Coordinator

Manage activities associated with the decommissioning of the Buffalo Materials Research Center (former Nuclear Research Reactor). Ensure compliance with all applicable, federal, state, and local regulations and with University at Buffalo policies. Prepare written materials including reports, correspondence, and contract specifications.



Maintain records and equipment pertinent to decommissioning.  Oversee implementation of safety programs related to work at the facility and the use of personal protective equipment on the site. Coordinate waste generation from the BMRC site. Conduct training related to the BMRC facility and the safety and decommissioning programs. Oversee reactor surveillance, maintenance and surveys. Perform license activities, daily facility security checks, and weekly water quality checks.



Assist with and support mechanical repair to the facility. Prepare technical and administrative reports based on collection of scientific sampling data. Maintain records and equipment pertinent to surveillance and maintenance. Prepare meeting agendas, reports, and all documents for the BMRC Operating Committee.



Bachelor's degree in engineering, radiation or physical science required. Two years experience in nuclear operations or health physics is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience is qualifying.



Additional desirable experience includes possession of a reactor operator license at a reactor (power or non-power) or experience in the Navy Nuclear power program; project management and oversight of contractors; knowledge of radiation science and radiation detection equipment repair; and experience providing training sessions. A valid New York State driver's license and strong written and verbal communication skills are required. Must be able to successfully pass a comprehensive background/security check as specified in Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidance.



Salary range: $38,000 - $50,000
