The Art Institute of Portland (AiPD) is actively seeking a personable, friendly, student-oriented individual to join our team as Residence Life Coordinator (RLC / apartment manager). We are looking for someone who is up for a challenge and who will bring a positive attitude, good customer service skills, and innovative ideas to the team. Interested? Good. So are we!
This live-in professional will be responsible for assisting the Director in providing a quality housing experience for students, maintaining a healthy learning and living environment, addressing student conduct issues, and managing the Resident Assistant and WalkSafe programs.
The RLC must be willing to commit to the role requirements, including flexibility to work weekends and evenings, as needed. Additionally, the very nature of the position requires that the RLC be available to residents and staff. As a result, he/she is expected to spend time in the apartment complexes and in the Student Affairs Department.

Key Job Elements:
1. Assist, supervise and counsel resident students. Ensure quality housing for students.
2. Conduct regular inspections of the student housing facilities and student units; identify problem areas, and enlist means to correct. Report, track and follow up on maintenance issues with appropriate building managers, maintenance and cleaning staff, etc. Ensure all repairs and maintenance issues are completed in a timely manner.
3. Assist in coordinating student check-in, check-out, and room changes, including assessing damage charges, maintaining an accurate key inventory, and processing paperwork in a timely manner.
4. Respond to emergencies and make appropriate referrals as needed. Provide coverage of student housing facility during off-hours and weekends.
5. Serve as primary conduct officer for student conduct issues in housing. Administer and implement AiPD housing policies and procedures. Ensure that appropriate sanctions are carried out in a timely manner. Maintain accurate student conduct records.
6. Supervise, train and evaluate Resident Assistant and WalkSafe staff. Develop and advise student hall council. Provide direction and coordination for all Housing community development activities.
7. Assume the role of fire safety director and assist in training and support of security personnel.
8. Work with the Director in utilization of housing budget. Maintain accurate records of housing budget.
9. Maintain consistent and scheduled office hours at the housing facility.
10. Maintain a public relations role for the Housing office, Student Services and The AiPD community as a whole.
11. Support and participate in all appropriate and applicable Student Service and AiPD activities, events, meetings and committees.
12. Additional responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Director.
13. Maintain an awareness of current issues and developments in higher education and student personnel. Participate in local, regional and national professional organizations.
Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
1. 1-2 years experience in Residential Life and Student Housing preferred. Applicable experience will also be considered.
2. Bachelors required, Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Education, Counseling or related field preferred.
3. Solid interpersonal skills i.e. group dynamics, human relations, counseling, and sensitivity to others.
4. Strong problem-resolution skills.
5. Excellent organizational, administrative and communication skills.
6. An understanding of student development issues in post-secondary education.
7. Maintain high professional standards and effective customer service.
