DESCRIPTION:As the technical solution analyst for the Applications Development Group of UCSD Extension, responsible for development of the overall technical design architecture, including especially interfaces between existing systems, and their place in the overall computing plan. Devise technical strategies for the Windows-based environment. Influence the adoption of new technologies, languages, tools, open source or commercial solutions. Design and lead the technical implementations of major projects. Ensure that that the Division’s business requirements and the campus Standards/Regulatory requirements are met. Analyze existing manual and computer-based systems processes to determine fulfillment of requirements and potential for improvements by implementation of appropriate technology. Provide technical and hands-on leadership to programmers for design, developing, deploying, enhancing, troubleshooting and maintaining information systems serving the Division. Perform coding and application development functions in support of other programmers. Provide technical direction for the Division’s application development tools and processes. Provide coding and development process, best practices, standards and conventions in support of other programmers. Advise the Group Director on optimal project planning for complex development projects from a technical perspective. Estimate resource requirements and time frames for development; communicate and coordinate these estimates with the Director regularly; monitor and report progress on approved projects regularly. Advise the Director on technical qualifications and performance of junior developers, contractor work and vendor products.--Must be willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.QUALIFICATIONS:* BS or MS in Computer Science/ Management of Information Systems, or a comparable combination of education and experience.* Expertise in scripting/ programming languages such as ColdFusion, Ruby On Rails, JAVA, ASP/VB, .NET, HTML, XML, DHTML, JavaScript, AJAX and associated tools, packages and extensions.* Hands-on experience in relational database design and programming such as SQL Server/ Transact SQL, Oracle/ PL/SQL, DB2, PostgreSQL etc.* Advanced knowledge in web based application design and implementation. Experiences in SSL, browser compatibility, high usability, system integration, web server configuration, web portal and application servers, such as MS IIS, SharePoint, Apache, Tomcat and Mongrel. Knowledge in Web Services (SOA, SOAP, WSDL, UDDI), Object Oriented design, analysis and implementation. Experience in project delivery using Agile process.
