Senior Director, Distance Education

HIMSS is seeking local Chicago candidates for our Senior Director of Distance Education position.  This position provides strategic direction and tactical oversight to the development of all Distance Education initiatives offered by HIMSS - Virtual Conference & Exhibition (VCE), eLearning Academy, a certificate program HIMSS offers in partnership with the University of Connecticut, webinars, and a second certificate program HIMSS offers in partnership with the Irish Computing Society.  This position represents HIMSS distance education both nationally and internationally.  This position is responsible for achieving success in all Distance Education programs, both financially and programmatically. 

 

In this entrepereneurial position, you will:

1.  Develop and lead the creation and execution of HIMSS strategic and tactical activities related to distance education.  Provide strategic direction and leadership in the design, implementation and evaluation of all distance education offerings provided by HIMSS.

2.  Lead development of an education committee to identify and prioritize content development and its implementation. Create curricula utilizing internal subject matter experts, volunteers from the HIMSS membership, external speakers, and third-party content providers to develop relevant and quality education programs. 

3.  Oversee the development of courseware including development of modules, pre and post tests and attendee evaluation protocol as well as procurement of CE credits to all applicable program offerings. Provide senior management expertise in the communications and involvement with all internal and external stakeholder groups.

4.  Direct and measure the progress of distance education programs to ensure that all offerings are developed on time, on budget, and meet the needs of the intended audiences.

5.  Demonstrate exceptionally-strong project management skills to manage multiple, complex, highly-detailed, and long-term projects simultaneously, bringing them to completion within expected time frames, budget, and relevance.  Provide project management expertise in leading the eLearning Academy implementation team agendas and calls and provide necessary follow-up to senior management.

 

The successful candidate will have a Masters Degree or equivalent experience, preferably in adult education or distance learning program development environments or health information technology.  Five years of related work experience in strategic design, development and evaluation of distance learning education programs, particularly in a virtual environment.  At least three years of experience at a management level or higher in a healthcare provider or consulting environment.  At least three years of experience in effective supervision of multiple staff. 

 

Also required:  Outstanding strategic and analytical skills with ability to achieve results in a complex environment.  Ability to articulate a strategy for the development of a robust distance leaning environment that meets the needs of healthcare IT professionals. Must be able to pull together resources to implement proposed strategies. Ability to provide senior level management expertise in leading Distance education initiatives at HIMSS.  Demonstrated ability to articulate ideas and concepts; and to represent HIMSS externally. Exceptional project management skills and ability to manage multiple complex projects; ability to direct projects to completion within budget and time frames. PMP highly desirable.  Demonstrated entrepreneurial ability to initiate educational programs to achieve budgeted goals.  Financial management skills to develop and execute related budgets and achieve budgeted outcomes.
