Senior Software Engineer

This position is for a senior programmer on the team responsible for the daily operation, maintenance and development of Pearson's suite of educational technology products and its enterprise class internet application. The focus of this position is on the software development of high-quality code, but also involves decisions regarding hardware, database design, security, user interface design and future product development. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience developing client-server database-driven applications using Oracle (or equivalent RDBMS), including schema design, SQL tuning and writing complex PL/SQL packages. A solid foundation in web client technologies is also desired, including advanced knowledge of CSS, XSL, Javascript and AJAX. Candidate must also demonstrate strong interpersonal and written communication skills. Related work experience:Professional software design and development experience (5+ years)Experience developing, and administering web applications (4+ years)In depth knowledge of web technologies (Java, JavaScript, XML, XSLT, CSS)Experience with at least one web server platform (Apache Web Server preferred)Experience designing highly scalable websitesExperience implementing disaster recovery processes and service monitoring tools to ensure high availability of web applicationsExperience with enterprise-class web application issues (load balancing, server maintenance, data migration)Bachelor's Degree Required (Master's Desirable) Skills:Oracle or similar relational database design experience required.Database server/programming (SQL) required.
