Senior Systems Administrator
Responsibilities
Serve as technical lead and administer campus wide UNIX (Solaris, linux) and Windows 2000/2003 server systems in a team environment. Serve as part of the Network and Server Group (NSSG) in the Office of Information Services and work closely with campus colleagues maintaining the university’s server resources and planning for growth and new services consistent with Puget Sound’s mission and strategic objectives. Particular emphasis will be placed on systems integration in a technologically diverse environment, encompassing a variety of open source and vendor solutions. The successful candidate will specialize in one of the above operating systems (UNIX/linux is preferred), but may be required to perform systems management/programming tasks on all. In addition, this position will have a role in coordination/management of projects and operations in the group.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree plus at least four years of system administration/programming in a heterogeneous systems environment, with experience deploying, managing, and developing open source software and systems, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience are required. Experience in basic server administration, including installation of server hardware and operating system software, account management, writing and maintaining administrative scripts and programming in perl or UNIX shell, and basic IP networking is required. Knowledge and experience in web services, virtualization, directory services and identity management solutions and in performance monitoring and tuning is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be familiar with LDAP, SSL, SOA, SAML, Shibboleth, and OpenID protocols and practices and will take an active part in furthering such technologies. Knowledge of programming in C, C++, or Java is desirable. The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, will be a proven collaborator, and will take ownership for proactively delivering exceptional service to campus constituents.
