Student Employment Advisor

 

To assist students in securing both non-career related and career related part-time jobs, career related freelance opportunities and coordinating college work study. Incumbent must assure that the EDMC philosophy: quality services to clients; development, growth, involvement, and recognition of employees; sound economic principles; and environment which is conducive to innovation, positive thinking and expansion - is considered in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position.

 

Key Job Elements:

1. Promote the availability of current part-time and freelance employment assistance to students in classroom presentations and by creating and implementing related campus events, including job fairs, workshop, on-site interviews, etc. and serve as a liaison between students and employers.

2. Contact employers by phone, mail and in person to obtain part-time and freelance job leads. Inform and educate employers of the services offered by the department.

3. Counsel students regarding part-time and freelance employment: identify students needs/skills, explain job search and interviewing procedures.

4. Assure that the job boards are updated daily and opportunities for employment are made available to students.

5. Work with Student Financial Services department to identify and prioritize high need students.

6. Maintain accurate student and employer records for employment assistance. Ensure that all SUN system records are accurate and current.

7. Prepare weekly and quarterly production reports.

8. Coordinate College Work Study with SFS by soliciting leads, explaining procedures, screening and referring students and maintaining employment records.

9. Serve as back up on phones for Administrative Assistant.

10. Other Duties as assigned

 

 

Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

1. Knowledge:

a) Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or related field. Equivalent experience could be considered as substitute for education requirements.

b) Two years experience in placement/search firm, career counseling or industry-related position, and at least one year experience in a marketing or field-related environment

2. Skills:

a) Excellent communication skills, including sales/persuasive abilities and the ability to build successful relationships with industry and graduates.

b) Computer literacy in MS Office suite.

3. Abilities:

a) Ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet frequently occurring deadlines.

b) Must be goal and team oriented and conduct business with attention to ethical considerations, employment law and school/accreditation guidelines.
