Systems Administrator
Under the direction of the Associate Director of University Systems and Security, implements, maintains, assists in planning, installation (hardware and software), and troubleshooting Windows/Novell/Unix systems, in addition to network and telecommunications (voice/video/data) equipment. This position is expected to assist in maintaining 7 day by 24-hour uptime for all critical systems and network segments.
1. Minimum of BS in Computer Science plus 3 years in Windows Server and Novell Netware system management.
2. Demonstrated aptitude in Systems Management with some experience in UNIX/Linux environments.
3. Thorough working knowledge of the management of Active Directory and Novell Directory Services. Knowledge of Novell clustering and filesystems. Ability to deploy GPO’s and specific discretionary file access controls in both Windows and Netware.
4. Programming and scripting experience a must. Preferred languages:
(C/C++, Java, Bourne Shell, Perl, Python, Javascript). Socket, SSL, or SNMP programming experience a plus.
5. Ability to perform skilled independent work in the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of systems and networking/telecommunications equipment.
6. Effective organizational skills to meet schedules and time lines.
7. Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
8. Ability to communicate and interact with all levels of university personnel and students.
9. Ability to lift and carry equipment and supplies.
10. Demonstrated aptitude in LAN/WAN concepts.
11. Ability to self-educate. Our environment is fast paced. Learning on your own rapidly and having the ability to produce are essential to success in this position.
12. Industry certifications a plus. CNE or MCSE/MCSA desired.
13. Valid driver’s license and accessibility to a car 24 hours per day,
7 days per week to accomplish support on any campus.
14. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check.
Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
