The Department of Theatre, Film & Dance at Cornell University seeksVisiting Lecturersfor the course World Dances, beginning Spring Semester 2009.We are conducting a search to identify qualified applicants within commuting distance of the university. The course will meet twice a week for 75 or 90 minutes each meeting, and will last fourteen weeks from January 19 to May 4, 2009, except during spring break the week of March 16.Offered once a year, the course will have a rotating content of movement techniques that could include Indian, Afro-Caribbean, Butoh, Capoeira, Javanese, West African, etc. The focus of the course will be defined each semester it is taught, depending upon the instructor and the movement form they teach. Each semester's instructor will be drawn from the pool of applicants that is created at this time and added to periodically. Consideration of applications by the search committee will start May 1, 2008 and continue until an instructor is appointed. B.A. We seek active and experienced teachers who can introduce students to the study and practice of basic movement vocabulary and dances in performance traditions outside of the European and American concert genres of ballet and modern dance. Ideally the qualifications would include at least 5 years teaching and/or professional performance experience.
