The Department of Financial Aid at the University Wisconsin–Milwaukee (UWM) currently has a vacancy for a University Business Specialist position. Job Duties: As key member of the Department of Financial Aid, this position reports directly to the Executive Director and is responsible for budget development and management, accounting, procurement, personnel management, office management and other miscellaneous duties as assigned. In addition, this individual must have the ability to work with on and off campus personnel, knowledge of campus policies and procedures, and the ability to make independent decisions and to use considerable discretion. This position is responsible for a high level of organizational accountability and control and works with a great deal of independence. It requires an individual who is multi-task-oriented and exercises good judgment in handling all budget and personnel information in a professional and confidential manner.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Qualified candidates will possess knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; knowledge of Accounting and Accounting Software; knowledge of relevant Federal and State policies and procedures, EOO/AA, budgeting, human resources, labor relations, payroll and leave accounting processes; knowledge of and proficiency with shared financial systems, preaudit and accounts payable/receivable, purchasing, travel and invoicing policies and procedures; the ability to use Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, e-mail and automated payroll systems; the ability to use good judgment and discretion in the handling of personnel materials and in other confidential matters; the ability to represent the department and the Executive Director in a professional manner to outside constituents; the ability to communicate effectively with the Executive Director, staff, co-workers, and other staff and students; the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities and meet deadlines; the ability to operate and maintain a working knowledge of office equipment i.e. PC’s, printers, fax machine, copy machines, calculators, electric typewriter, folding machine, telephones as well as voicemail procedures; the ability to perform repetitive motions associated with keyboarding; the ability to maintain scheduled work hours; skill in computations ranging from basic math, percentages, and ability to summarize and make budget projections as it relates to payroll, budget and other university fiscal requirements; a high level of individual initiative and sound, ethical, independent judgment-making abilities; and excellent
Salary: The starting salary for this position is between $33,581-$53,841 per year (schedule/range 07/04) plus excellent benefits. A six-month probationary period is required.
