University General Counsel

BGSU, located in Bowling Green, Ohio, is seeking a University General Counsel to support the President; the Board of  Trustees; University executive, administrative, and academic officers; and others. Its main campus is 25 miles southeast of Toledo.

 Reporting to the President, the General Counsel is a member of the President's Cabinet and is responsible for the Office of General Counsel, with a staff of three, including an Associate General Counsel, paralegal and administrative assistant.  The Office functions as counsel dealing with wide- ranging issues, and working closely with the Attorney General's office and Special Counsel firms for specific legal specialties.  

 Requirements include a law degree from an  ABA-accredited law school, licensed in the state of Ohio or eligible to obtain such license promptly  after  hiring,  and  10+  years  of  relevant  experience. Knowledge of federal and Ohio state employment, contract, intellectual property law, and familiarity with research-related issues, FERPA, and public records and open meeting statutes also are desired.  The ideal candidate must be a leader with confidence, skills and diplomacy to educate, advise and influence the President, Cabinet and Trustees.
