Visiting Academic-08145
Description

The Department of Architecture in the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning at Cornell University invites applications for one or more visiting faculty term positions beginning in Fall 2008. Duration of these non-tenure track, visiting appointments will be from one to three years, depending on the qualifications and interests of the candidates as well as the Department's academic needs. The typical teaching load for the duration of this appointment will be two courses per semester including design studio, required lecture courses, and/or advanced elective seminars.

Applicants should posses a strong teaching record, graduate and/or professional degrees in architecture or associated fields, evidence of significant research and creative work related to design and contemporary practice, and expertise in one or more of the following fields of investigation: architectural theory, urbanism, sustainability and environmental systems, digital media and emergent technologies, analog techniques of architectural representation, as well as professional practice.

Architecture at Cornell dates back to the founding of the institution; it is one of the oldest programs of its kind and has a long and distinguished tradition of scholarship and teaching. Degree programs in the Department include the professional B.Arch., a candidacy-status professional M.Arch., a post-professional M.Arch., an M.A., and Ph.D. in the history of architecture and urban development, and an MS in computer graphics. New facilities and evolving degree programs reflect both a continuing commitment to excellence and an ongoing renewal of architectural education at Cornell. The Department welcomes interest in developing greater interdisciplinary collaboration within the College and the University as a whole -- with its wealth of humanistic, artistic, scientific, and technological resources. Beyond the institution, the Department seeks to build upon its already extensive contacts and interactions both in the U.S. and internationally.

The Department encourages applications from women and other traditionally under-represented minorities in the field of Architecture.

Required Application Materials: a brief cover letter;a full curriculum vita; a concise statement describing areas of expertise, research focus and objectives, approach to pedagogy, and brief descriptions of possible elective seminars; representative examples of scholarship and/or practice; a list of three references with telephone and fax numbers, mailing addresses, and email addresses.

All applicants should submit the materials to: Andrea Talmadge Department of Architecture 139 East Sibley Hall Ithaca, NY 14853
