Vocational Counselor/Job Developer

Phoenix House, a non-profit organization, is the nation’s foremost provider of comprehensive, alcohol and substance abuse treatment for adults and adolescents. Since 1967, more than 100,000 drug-troubled individuals have received treatment at our adult residential centers, our adolescent Phoenix Academies, outpatient and day programs, and programs in prisons, drug courts, and homeless shelters.

Vocational Education Counselor coordinates and arranges vocational and educational services for Phoenix House Adolescent Program both for residential and aftercare participants. Responsible for upholding regulations established by the Department of Social Services for the state and California. Includes serving as a primary care giver and role model to the residents of Phoenix House and to the community, and supporting the successful integration of treatment and education services.

Responsibilities:

Coordinates and arranges vocational and educational services in accordance with program and individual education plans. This includes:

1.Provide educational/vocational testing, assessment and counseling.

2.Coordinate job development/job training with residents and outside agencies such as Employment Development Department, Department of Rehabilitation, Skills Centers and Occupational Schools.

3.Coordinate remedial tutoring.

4.Monitor residents in all outside employment, school and vocational programs.

5.Prepares and presents seminars and workshops, creating opportunities for teaching general life skills such as cooking, cleaning living areas and maintaining clothes.

6.Facilitates encounter groups.

7.When assigned the responsibilities of Duty Staff, facilitates daily program activities.

8.Monitors and reports behaviors of clients.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. 24 months experience working in an adolescent treatment setting or drug or alcohol treatment setting; -OR-
Twelve months sobriety and completion or drug or alcohol treatment program; -OR- 60 units completed, A.A. or A.S. degree or completion of a Certificate in a subject related to drug and alcohol programs or child care.

2. A valid California drivers license and a driving record acceptable to the Agency's insurance carrier.

3. Must be available to work evening shift (1 - 10 pm)
