e-Learning Design & Development Manager

Job Summary: The position is based within Kumon University. As Team Leader of the e-Learning Team, the incumbent will report to the Leader of Kumon University, who is responsible for building a world-class Corporate University aligned with Kumon’s unique learning needs and corporate goals. The incumbent will lead the e-Learning Design and Development Team and will be charged with developing high-quality e-Learning training modules within Kumon. The incumbent will lead a team responsible for developing, deploying, supporting and maintaining all e-learning/distance education courses for Kumon associates and Instructors. The incumbent will be responsible for leading a dynamic team to invent, design, deliver, manage and continuously improve exceptional and unique web based training. He/She will be responsible for building the backbone of the entire Learning Management System (LMS) ground up.  This position is located in Teaneck NJ. Relocation to Teaneck, NJ may be considered. Job Responsibilities: Design, develop, and author interactive and engaging e-Learning and blended learning programs with assessments and simulations using a variety of tools and applications. Apply adult learning principles and instructional system design methodologies to train Kumon’s staff and franchise base. Use Instructional Design methodologies to analyze, evaluate, design, and develop functional specifications for multi-media educational software Interact with Kumon’s Curriculum Specialists, SMEs (Subject Matter Experts), Artists, Graphic Designers, Animators and Programmers to create and design courses within specified budget and schedules Manage and maintain multiple curricula, taking e-Learning courses through development lifecycle, maintenance and end of life. Firm understanding of AICC and SCORM (e-Learning standards). Respond to user questions and support requests regarding the Learning Management Services and on-line training modules within one business day. Maintain all content on the LMS including course descriptions, certificates and SCORM modules. Manage projects, upgrades and enhancements to the LMS Maintain open communications with LMS and design software vendors to ensure required level of technical support. Initiate advisory consultations for enhancements and upgrades. Provide escalation services and communication paths. Run system reports on key learning metrics and provide data to upper management. Job Requirements: Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Training, Computer Science, or other appropriate field Strong knowledge of online learning and distance education including practical knowledge of alternative instructional strategies, especially how those can be integrated into online learning courses and accessed via learning management systems. 5-7 years experience in Instructional Design and corporate training experience preferred Blackboard, WebCT, Angel or Desire2Learn 5-7 years experience in web design software; Fireworks, Lectora, and Captivate preferred, Adobe Flash experience a plus 5-7 year experience in sound authoring software; SoundForge preferred; Proficiency in audio file creation for web delivery 3-5 year experience in digital video & web video editing and authoring. 3-5 years experience in learning management systems administration Prior experience in conducting webinars (WebEx experience preferred) Knowledge and skills in training needs assessment, training design and development methodology, and training evaluation/measurement (Kirkpatrick.) Ability to apply instructional and adult learning theories, accelerated learning principles, and use of assessments and evaluations Solid knowledge of web-based technologies such as HTML, JavaScript, object-oriented technology and/or other design-related or graphics applications Proficiency in administration of learning management systems; experience with GeoLearning Maestro preferred Ability to organize, prioritize and work effectively under pressure and subject to changing priorities; proven experience managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and using judgment and initiative in problem resolution. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Strong customer service skills and professionalism Excellent oral and written communication skills including spelling, grammar, and punctuation skills Must be a self-starter who displays excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to effectively organize and direct staff by providing a team approach for planning, development and operation of the department. Significant experience in successfully managing, delivering and improving high-quality e-Learning programs. Innovative and proactive problem-solving skills with strong business acumen, a solid understanding of group and corporate dynamics and the ability to exercise integrity and sound judgment in complex business situations. Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals at all levels in a large, complex, non-hierarchical organization as well as the ability to work with executives and senior leadership in a corporate environment.
