 Job Description Summary

Under general direction, manages LAN performance and maintains LAN security. Installs, maintains and monitors the operation of the local area network. Evaluates vendor products in hardware, software and telecommunications equipment and recommends purchases consistent with short and long term objectives. Recommends and implements LAN policies and standards ensuring adherence to security procedures.

 Essential Functions

-Acquires, installs and maintains local area network.

-Reads technical manuals and brochures to determine equipment which meets company requirements.

-Assists in presenting to management recommendations related to purchasing and installing hardware, software and telecommunications equipment.

-Analyzes future needs for acquisition.

-Manages LAN security and network performance.

-Establishes and implements LAN policies, procedures and standards, ensuring conformance with information systems and objectives.

-Develops and writes procedures for installation, use and solving problems of communications hardware and software.

-Instructs users in the use of equipment.

 Qualifications & Requirements

-Considerable knowledge of Server NT, 2000, 2003 R2 and active directory is a big plus.

-Knowledge of UPS and KVM systems

-Knowledge of the general principles of computer systems operation, including potential uses and limitations.

-Good knowledge of general research practices as they apply to the application and use of electronic data processing equipment.

-Ability to interpret a variety of complex instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

-PC operations and software (Word processing and spreadsheet) are required. Good typing skills are also required.

-Knowledge of installing and terminating cat5e, telecom color codes, 66 blocks, D-Marks and AC/DC fundamentals.

 Preferred

-MCSE or A+ is a plus
