Capital Equipment Buyer
As an Equipment Buyer at Micron’s Manassas Virginia site, you will manage the procurement process from scope definition to business award and final delivery, by identifying and understanding the requirements and expectations of internal customers. You will prepare and solicit competitive RFQs, with clear specs, terms, contract award criteria, and coordination of internal teams. You will also negotiate prices, delivery, terms, working with internal and central teams as needed to draft Purchase Orders and/or Contracts referencing agreed terms, complying with applicable laws and Micron policies. You must resolve contract differences, payment issues, delivery issues, freight loss, damage claims or procurement methods. You will review bids; analyze Total Cost of Ownership and recommend best options by extensively using NPV and ROI analysis. In this position you will assess product availability on the market and interview current or potential suppliers to assess trends and gain product related information. You will also participate in the supplier qualification process and ensure general technical/financial guidelines are accounted for. You must maintain market awareness to gain information on new products and competitors, as well as prices trends in addition to monitoring supplier performance during execution of contracts, ensuring alignment with agreed business, warranty and legal terms, as well as product specifications. You will formally document supplier performance and maintain a regular supplier assessment program. Additionally, you will initiate escalation processes for resolution of problems impacting operations. In this role you must maintain advanced supplier’s relationship; represent the company and the site with corporate suppliers and maintain knowledge of suppliers organization, business model and financial viability. You will coordinate communication between customer and supplier on all commercial aspects, including quality and performance issues. You will proactively keep internal customers informed on progresses, issues, timing of procurement activities, projects, and drive the Capital Budgeting process for areas of responsibility. Cash Flow management (approval of payments, tracking of asset and cash flow changes, payment scheduling, variances control, internal/external reconciliation of invoices) is key in this position, as well as maintenance of accurate warranty information for all areas of responsibility. You will assign and maintain safety stock levels, forecasted usage and reorder points for inventoried items and raw materials and analyze forecasted demands in SAP to ensure that inventory levels are appropriate on a daily basis adjusting and determining purchase order quantities and delivery timing to match manufacturing demand. You will execute commodity goals, such as understanding market conditions, customer demand, inventory levels, lead times, turns, obsolescence, end of life, shelf life, and second / alternative sourcing programs. You must organize, control, and minimize the storage of materials, reconcile inventory discrepancies, and reduce lead times.Successful candidates for this position will have: The ability to work under limited supervision. The ability to review and coordinate complex purchase requests, both goods and services, including requests for quotes or proposals, in addition to drafting complex multi term orders in compliance with Micron’s policies and legal / fiscal aspects connected to the procurement processes. The ability to manage supplier relationships on behalf of Micron. The ability to sustain and develop purchasing supplier relationships, including exploring alternate sources of supply. The ability to act as a focal point for internal users and supplier in the 3-way communication chain and facilitate problem resolution and flow of information, using business and technical experience. SAP R/3 experience desired. Education:A 4 year BS Degree in Business or relevant sciences (Economics, Finance, Accounting) OR A minimum of 4 years experience as a Buyer / Planner at Micron, or equivalent (in contents and knowledge) business and technical experience in the Industry, including Military.
