Custom System Engineer

CUSTOM SYSTEM ENGINEER

Zetron, Inc., a recognized industry leader in providing mission-critical communication applications, has an immediate opportunity available for a Custom System Engineer. This position, under limited supervision of the Engineering Manager provides design, installation, and optimization support to assure integrity of contract to customers who have purchased Zetron’s custom systems.

Responsibilities:

• Create and maintain custom system documentation.

• Configure system parameters through Project Engineer direction.

• Evaluate and recommend sophisticated or highly technical solutions to situations where Zetron’s first line of support has failed to satisfy the customer’s needs.

• Evaluate customer’s installation plans through estimation of labor hours and analysis of site conditions.

• Assure customer site is in a state of readiness for installation and commissioning.

• Negotiate site acceptance test outcomes, through resolution of punch list items.

• Schedule local sub-contractors activities and oversee completion of work.

• Conduct factory and site acceptance testing.

• Direct activities associated with customer installation.

• As a technical liaison, provide advanced troubleshooting, working with test engineering to resolve all issues. Report design, reliability, and maintenance problems to Engineering.

• Extensive long term assignments at customer sites is required to assure Zetron’s Mission Critical systems are installed and commissioned to meet all customer requirements.

• Extensive travel at short notice with unsociable work hours.

• Work schedule may involve night and weekends with long hours necessary to complete the installation phase of our contract.

• Participate in customer installation and training programs.

• Required to perform the job functions in a safe manner.

• Entry to a customer site may be contingent, by contract, upon the employee passing a drug test.

• Troubleshooting electronic equipment down to component level

Requirements:

• Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job is acceptable. A typical way to obtain the necessary qualifications would be a combination of experience and education.

Education: Business, math, and communication skills as would be acquired with a four-year technical degree in Engineering or Computer Science.

Experience: Minimum 5 years working with large-scale voice communication console systems and radio dispatch infrastructure. FCC GROL license preferred. Minimum 5 years in a high tech technical support environment on-site at customer locations. Component level electronic troubleshooting required. Large system and network experience required.

• Basic computer skills such as databases, DOS based PC’s, Window based PC’s. Use of test equipment such as telephone simulators, service monitors, digital multimeter (DMM), and oscilloscope. Soldering skills required.

• Position is located in the main building, when not at customer site. Extensive travel is required. Employee will be issued a laptop to accommodate flexible and extensive work hours. If no assignments are imminent, employee may be required to work from the office located in the Contract Fulfillment area.

• Negotiation and influence skills. Ability to evaluate a site or problem and estimation skills for labor and site readiness. Understanding of technical contract language. Ability to work with customers and engineering department.
