Data Analyst (FBI Lab - Quantico)

A Data Analyst provides organization and management of case files to include:
Maintaining Custody Records
Interacting with all members of Evidence Control Unit
Maintaining storage
Inventorying data records
Fulfilling internal request for evidence

This position will also require the candidate to assist Forensic Examiners in performing administrative type functions as well as quality control and quality assurance duties. Administrative duties include but are not limited to the following: photocopying discovery materials and answering the Unit phones. Quality control and quality assurance duties will include but are not limited to the following: recording temperatures on various laboratory equipment, assisting in the calibration/verification of laboratory equipment such as thermometers and thermal cyclers, as well as assisting in inventory matters. Other duties include assisting the DNAAUI Missing Persons Program Manager in tracking various aspects of Missing Persons casework.

The work will be performed in a laboratory. Candidates will be required to work with potentially infectious blood samples (HIV, Hepatitis, etc.). Candiates will be required to complete a Bloodborne Pathogens Training Program before officially starting duties. It is strongly recommended that the candidate undergo the Hepatitis B Vaccine series.

May also include any of the following duties:
Review data (completeness of information, proper execution)
Extract data from data base
Obtain additional information from other investigative agencies/data base
Establish/maintain physical file
Prepare notices/advertisements
Conduct and reconcile inventories
Distribute and receive documents
Assist lead analyst or official in obtaining/collecting all documents/information to
complete case file
Provide administrative information and assistance concerning case to other DOJ processing units, and higher headquarters

A Data Analyst must meet the following qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Biology or Natural Sciences is highly preferred
Ability to review and analyze data and information from multiple sources
Ability to establish case/project files
Ability to enter and retrieve data from data bases
Ability to prepare and format management reports
Ability to manipulate, transfer, and compute and print information
Ability to create and manipulate spreadsheets
Ability to prepare and correct reports and correspondence using word processing software This position requires U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain a Top Secret Clearance

The work requires manual dexterity, flexibility, and some assignments which require lifting of objects of up to 50 pounds or more. The work will be performed in a laboratory setting which may involve exposure to hazardous materials, toxic substances and blood borne pathogens. Preventative inoculations will be required.

Professional work in forensic serology, biochemistry, genetics, and molecular biology performed in a laboratory setting, which includes the successful analysis of a range of DNA samples desired. Experience in the processing of skeletal remains is preferred.
