Database Administrator

Center Valley, PA - The Database Administrator is responsible for providing technical and organizational support for the database environment at Olympus Corporation of the America's (OCA). This position ensures a secure and efficient data architecture and physical database environment that supports vendor packaged applications. EOE M/F/D/V

* Administer all versions and instances of Microsoft SQL Server & Oracle databases used throughout all companies and by all business groups within OCA.

 

* Build and support new development and production database environments as required.

 

* Monitor database size and performance, and offer recommendations on improving performance.

 

* Create stored procedures, database triggers, indices and view where necessary to improve performance.

 

* Perform periodic database upgrades and install service patches as required.

 

* Work with Operations to establish database Backup-Recovery procedures.

 

* Work with applications teams and or developers to tune SQL queries to diagnose application issues or improve performance.


* Establish and secure database and perform monitoring of databases.


* Perform other related duties as assigned.

* A Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent knowledge is required.


* Must have three years of experience as a database administrator in an Oracle and MS SQL Server database environment. Specific experience should include Microsoft SQL 2005, 2000 and Oracle 10G administration and working with high availability database configurations. Examples include Microsoft Windows SQL clustering, Oracle data guard etc.


* Multidimensional database knowledge is required.

* Must possess a working knowledge of Microsoft and Linux operating systems and technologies as well as a strong knowledge of data relationships and data normalization. 


* Knowledge of MetaData concepts, data warehousing, and dimensional modeling is desired.


* Must have excellent communication skills.
