DESIGN ENGINEER III / DSP VoIP

Zetron, Inc., a recognized industry leader in providing mission-critical communication applications, has an immediate opportunity available for a Design Engineer III, with a primary focus on Research, Digital Signal Processing (DSP), and IP network protocols. This position, under limited supervision of the Engineering Manager, serves as a senior engineering resource that is responsible for leading the evolution of Zetron’s engineering capabilities in terms of emerging technologies.

Responsibilities:

With limited direction from the Engineering Manager:

- Research, analyze, prototype, and document emerging technologies that have application for Zetron’s products and systems.

- Develop algorithms and DSP firmware that have application for Zetron’s products and systems.

- Evolve Zetron’s capabilities in terms of IP network protocols. In particular, hands-on experience with Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) development is preferred.

Under self-direction:

- Design and develop electronic circuits, including microprocessor and DSP applications and digital/analog circuitry and/or assist in the development of complex embedded software that enables functions typically residing in a hardware product.

- Perform system analysis, design and development of limited-scope projects and/or subsystems.

- May guide or perform the creation of functional specifications as they relate to enhancing existing products and systems.

- Mentor junior members of the engineering group to ensure that they are continuing to advance in their design and development skills.

- Provide detailed task estimates for small to medium sized projects

- Guide or perform the work necessary to resolve complex issues within existing products and portions of new designs.

- Perform work in compliance with Zetron's Design Control Procedure.

- Required to perform the job functions in a safe manner.

Requirements:

- Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job is acceptable. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education: Engineering skills as would be acquired with a BSEE, BSCE or BSCS, and

Experience: Minimum five years experience in an advanced hardware design and/or embedded product development environment.

- Requires a history of at least 5 completed projects demonstrating firm knowledge of full product development life-cycles.

- There is a firm job requirement to have recent, hands-on development experience with DSP firmware development. Prefer experience with Analog Devices and Texas Instruments fixed-point DSP devices.

- Must have advanced knowledge related to the creation of system analysis and requirements specifications.

- Must have the research skills to achieve the responsibilities stated above.

- Must have the DSP skills to achieve the responsibilities stated above.

- Preferred to have the IP network protocol skills to achieve the responsibilities stated above.

- Must have good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment

- Position is located in the main building. Workspace is located in the Engineering area. Requires frequent sitting. May require occasional travel.
