Electrical Supplier Quality Engineer

Responsibilities: 

Serve as the primary point of contact with suppliers on quality and technical issues with procured material specific to electrical components, most specifically magnetics and all derivatives associated with magnetics. Work with various internal engineering groups to assist in identifying, developing, qualifying and procuring state of the art electrical components for high-density DC-to-DC switching power supplies. Assist in second sourcing efforts of components used in Vicor's product lines.  Assess and drive corrective action on electrical component failures for appropriate feedback and disposition of materials to internal customers and/or suppliers.

 

Supports design & manufacturing engineering, purchasing, manufacturing and incoming inspection including MRB, corrective action, supplier performance and new supplier qualification. Support to incoming inspection includes defining test criteria, processes and procedures for product inspection.

 

Develop strategies to implement world class supplier improvement programs as they relate to materials, design and processes within the Brick product division and evaluate and implement solutions to improve quality while meeting the requirements for high volume manufacturing, high reliability, and environmental compliance for leading edge, high density, power converters in a fast-paced product team environment.

 

 

Specific Deliverables:Lead the efforts to continue to improve the overall quality of magnetics products within the supply chain both with existing suppliers and coordinating new supplier development and new process development.Provide technical guidance specific to supplied products to other engineering and manufacturing departments within the company as well as to suppliers. Conduct technical audits of selected suppliers on an as needed basis.Assist in failure analysis as it relates to all components within the brick on an as needed basis.

 

Requirements:

B.S.E.E. or equivalent preferred. Minimum 3 years experience in a similar position.  Demonstrated use of problem solving tools including structured problem solving, design of experiments, failure mode and effect analysis, and statistical analysis techniques desirable. The candidate with previous experience in supplier improvement programs and a proven track record of supplier improvement will have the edge over other candidates.

 

Position requires good knowledge of components, most specifically magnetics (cores, wire, transformers, etc.).

 

Candidate must have excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
