Electrical Systems Design Engineer

Job Title: Electrical System Design Engineer Department: HTS Engineering Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1.Work as a primary member of design teams developing new HTS medium and high voltage power system products. 2.Translate development needs into functional requirements and execute a packaging design to meet these requirements. 3.Key design areas include: control system specification, thermal design, electronic and electrical system interconnections, enclosure layout and architecture, safety, maintenance and field service issues, dynamic shock and vibration with respect to equipment weight, mounting and location, general chassis and cabinet layout, and test and production fixtures. 4.Generate design and documentation packages and work with purchasing, manufacturing and vendors on make/buy decisions. Support would also be provided to the in-house and external vendors to understand and resolve manufacturing and quality issues as they arise. 5.Utilize computer aided design tools to perform and document the detailed design. 6.Perform cost analysis of resulting designs and propose alternative technologies or techniques to reduce cost. 7.Generate and execute test plans to validate design requirements and document limitations. 8.Generate assembly drawings and process documentation for manufacturing with the assistance of designers and CAD people. 9.Perform make/buy analysis on appropriate subsystems and components. 10.Generate inspection plans to assure the quality and consistency of manufactured and vended assemblies and components. Decision Making Authority This position has a wide range of authority covering from developing test and verification procedures to proposing vendors and capital equipment purchases.Minimum Education and Experience Requirements EXPERIENCE: At least 5 years experience in electronics packaging or a combination of schooling and experience.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions:Knowledge of 2D & 3D CAD systems required. Knowledge of manufacturing procedures. Knowledge of wiring and cabling practices including cable terminations and high current busswork. Knowledge of requirements for medium and high voltage systems.Knowledge of UL, CE.Knowledge of NEMA classifications for cabinetry. Knowledge of ventilation & cooling practices used in electronic cabinetry. Ability to communicate ideas and concepts orally and in writing. Interaction with Others (level of contact, purpose and frequency) Frequent interaction with other employees including designers, drafters, engineers, purchasing and production workers.
