Engineer - Design and Development - Antenna Systems

Job Description
QUALCOMM Corp R&D has a mission to advance core CDMA and OFDMA and other advanced wireless communication technologies. Key innovations in CDMA such as 1x EV-DO were conceived and brought to market by corporate R&D. Now, leading edge OFMDA research and implementation are also a key focus.

Support design and development of practical antenna systems for future generation of wireless phones, embedded modems, and other mobile and fixed wireless devices. Perform tradeoff analysis and feasibility study for new antenna/RF architectures that lead to performance improvement, size reduction and lower cost. Support technology development of next generation antenna applications in the areas of WWAN, WLAN and WPAN.

Skills/Experience
Knowledge of electromagnetic theory with application to antennas, RF/Microwave circuit and network theory. Good understanding of standard antenna types (dipole, monopole, loop, horn, patch, broadband, multiband), and antenna array theory. Have design experience with antennas used in cell phone and laptop applications such as whip, stubby, PIFA, and folded monopole. Working knowledge of commercial EM simulation software such as IE3D, HFSS, or Microstripes, and circuit analysis software such as Eagleware or ADS. Knowledge of pertinent antenna performance parameters and methods to characterize them. Familiar with radiated performance testing.

Additional Skills
Knowledge of CDMA, WCDMA and GSM mobile cellular standard is a plus. Experience in AutoCAD is also a plus.

Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred) with emphasis in antennas and electromagnetics.
