Field Service System Engineer for Cryogenic and Cathodeluminance Products

Position Summary

 

The Field Service System Engineer for Cryogenic and Cathodeluminance Products is responsible for services of specimen prep, cathodoluminescence, and cryopreparation systems at the customer site. On-site customer installation, service support, limited telephone support, hardware and software configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance support for Gatan products is required. The engineer must insure repaired systems meet operating specifications, documenting service performed, and scheduling. The engineer is expected to propose design enhancements, and improvements. A college or technical school degree desirable but not required.

 

Primary Tasks

1. On-site customer installation, service support, limited telephone support, hardware and software configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Insure repaired systems meet operating specifications.

2.  This position will require traveling on the average of 70% of the time, International travel required.

3.  Able to read and interpret schematics and electrical diagrams through to the component level. Isolate the system fault at the component level for electronic and mechanical systems and repair. Also be able to work on vacuum, precision movement mechanical parts, optics, and cryogenic systems.

4. Experience with Windows Operation System (OS) software installation and configuration.

5. Must be a self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision in an isolated environment.

6. Ability to approach problems with a sense of ownership, enthusiasm and innovation with strong client service attitude.

7. Ability to interface with people at all levels.

8. Ability to work on complex learning and development problems as well as teach highly technical information is essential.

9. Document work performed in a service report. Complete billing or warranty documentation as needed.

10. Propose design enhancements or improvements to the existing design.
