Hardware Engineer

JOB SUMMARY:

The individual filling this role will be part of a team of highly qualified hardware development engineers creating world-class data storage solutions. This individual will participate in assigned portions of the design, implementation, review, documentation, productization and support of embedded hardware for storage systems. The hardware engineer will have demonstrated sufficient technical knowledge in a broad range of technologies related to board and system level designs to carry out those assignments.

Other responsibilities will include the generation of portions of the hardware documentation for the product, and the development of portions of the engineering and design verification test plans.

The engineer will be guided by senior hardware engineers and management to accomplish the assigned goals. Hardware engineers are expected to mentor both peer and junior engineers to assist them in solving complex problems. This is a professional position; some level of overtime to achieve team goals may be required. While flexibility in working hours is possible, demands of the program on the team cannot guarantee flexibility at all times. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Experience working in small team environments
• Bachelor in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
• 4-7 years' hardware development experience using 32/64 microprocessors, high speed digital circuits, clock rates in excess of 50 MHz in embedded designs
• Working knowledge of CAE tools (Schematic capture, simulation, timing design, layout) required
• Working knowledge of PCB design techniques for EMC and signal integrity
• Knowledge of transmission line theory, termination design, line design
• Experience in the use of logic analyzers and high speed oscilloscopes required
• Experience with hardware development concepts, practices and procedures required
• Excellent communications skills for creating functional and detailed design specifications
• Experience in reading, understanding and designing to open specifications
• PLD/FPGA design experience
• Knowledge of DFT/DFM methods
• Knowledge of design verification and stress testing
• A desire to learn and push the development envelope, willingness to take on strong challenges 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Electro-mechanical and thermal design knowledge as it relates to PCBs and packaging
• Experience in high speed signal integrity simulation
• Experience in making multi-GHz signal integrity measurements, designing multi-GHz board layouts
• Experience with SCSI, Fibre Channel, iSCSI, SAS and SATA protocols
• Experience with PCB layout tools and PCB manufacturing engineering
• Knowledge of PCB fabrication techniques, PCBA manufacturing techniques
• Knowledge of JTAG testing and DFT
• Knowledge of designing for RoHS and WEEE compliance
• Experience with DDR, DDR-2 memory designs
• Knowledge of Bus Architectures such as PCI, PCI-X, Ethernet, PCI express
• Some software experience in developing bring-up and test code for the board-level products designed
