Brief DescriptionDesign, analysis and characterization of high-speed (10–40 Gb/s), broad-band, mixed-signal, integrated circuits for fiber-based wire-line applications. The integrated circuits will be used in fiber-optic modules, and will include pre-emphasis circuits, equalizer circuits, dispersion compensation circuits, multiple-input/multiple-output signal processing circuits, and clock-data-recovery circuits, all at 10-40 Gb/s. Descriptioni. Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities (in order of priority)
* Design, analysis and characterization of high-speed (10 40 Gb/s), broad-band, mixed-signal, integrated circuits for fiber-based wire-line applications. The integrated circuits will be used in fiber-optic modules, and will include pre-emphasis circuits, equalizer circuits, dispersion compensation circuits, multiple-input/multiple-output signal processing circuits, and clock-data-recovery circuits, all at 10-40 Gb/s.
* Ability to quickly transition between design, analysis and characterization for high-speed, mixed-signal, and analog circuits is sought.
* Ability to lead small design team, function as lead designer, or function as sole designer, according to project requirements.
ii. Education / Experience (required or desired)
* MSEE required, PhD EE desired.
* Five years experience working as an RF and/or mixed-signal IC design engineer is required. Industry experience in optical networking and signal processing is preferred.
iii. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities (required or desired)
* IC Designs: Experience with some or all of the following IC designs is desired.
* a. Signal processing: LMS and MLSE algorithms.
* b. 10 40 Gb/s: pre-emphasis circuits, equalizer circuits, dispersion compensation circuits, multiple-input/multiple-output signal processing circuits, feed-forward equalizers, transversal filters, FIR filters, decision-feedback equalizers, IIR filters.
* c. 10 40 Gb/s: High speed analog and mixed signal circuits: ADCs.
* d. 10 - 40 Gb/s: Multi-channel clock-data-recovery, mux, demux, and deskew circuits.
* e. Low speed analog and mixed signal circuits: op-amps, DACs, ADCs.
* f. 10 40 Gb/s: Laser and modulator drivers, transimpedance, AGC, and limiting amplifiers, and dispersion compensation circuits.
* IC Technologies: High-speed IC technologies, including SiGe and 65 nm CMOS processes
* IC Design Software: Experience with analog and mixed-signal IC design software (e.g. Cadence Composer, Cadence Virtuoso, Cadence Spectre-RF, Verilog-A, Virtuoso AMS, Skill language, Agilent ADS ) is a must. Willingness to participate in development and support of common design flow used by all members of design group.
* Test: Experience with IC testing and IC design that facilitates test is crucial. Familiarity with high-speed probe testing and packaged IC testing is desired.
* Manufacturing: Candidate must have experience transferring designs into production and a thorough understanding of DFM practices, such as design for yield over process, voltage and temperature. Experience working with device fabs and packaging vendors is desired.
* Laboratory: Experience testing and characterizing high-speed ICs is required. Familiarity with high-speed IC test equipment (RF spectrum analyzer, high-speed oscilloscope, RF network analyzer, RF wafer prober ) is a must. Familiarity with optical communication test equipment (BERT equipment, digital communication analyzers, light-wave component analyzer ) is also desired.
* Work Environment: Comfortable working in a fast-paced, startup-like environment. Must be strong individual contributor, and also able to work as member of a small team.
