Laser Development Engineer

Summary:As a member of the fiber laser engineering group, you will participate in the development of new fiber laser products, and you can expect to take part in research on new fiber laser technologies. Your work will range from individual hands-on experimentation and measurements to participating in an engineering team. You will interface with other R&D engineers, manufacturing engineers, project managers, and product line marketing managers. You will report to the Director of Fiber Laser Development.Duties & Responsibilities: Understand high power fiber lasers, fiber processing technologies, and instrumentation for testing lasers (including optical and thermal properties). Design, build, and test prototypes of high power fiber lasers. Direct technicians during build and test activities. Develop and execute verification and qualification tests for laser system and components. Develop and execute plan for testing reliability of optical components, subsystems and laser product. Participate in FMEA activities. Interact with suppliers to define specifications and designs for optical components. Participate in design reviews of optical components and subsystems. Develop processes that allow skilled technicians to build lasers with consistent results in a consistent amount of time. Support the manufacturing of laser products through the writing of clear procedures and training of manufacturing technicians. Be a productive, creative, and supportive member of product development teams that include optical engineers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and marketing and manufacturing personnel. Document work results and report status to management.QualificationsRequired Qualifications:" B.S. / Master s degree in lasers / optics / optical physics, or equivalent level of education and experience." Hands-on experience with optical fibers and fiber lasers." Interest and ability in laboratory measurements, new product development, and design for manufacturability." Demonstrable initiative in executing assignments.Desired Qualifications:" Experience in designing, building, and manufacturing of commercial laser products." Experience on a new product development team in a cross-functional environment.
