We are currently seeking a Materials Engineering Manager for our Cooper Interconnect group in LaGrange, NC. SUMMARY OF POSITION: This position is accountable to plan, organize and direct the purchasing, planning and control of purchased components and production orders processed through the manufacturing facility to insure the lowest possible cost, acceptable product quality and maintenance of customer service levels through the direction of the buying and planning group. This position is also responsible for the coordination and administration of Cooper Interconnect, La Grange, manufacturing engineering functions. NATURE AND SCOPE: This position reports to the Operations Manager. The incumbent is responsible for the overall performance of the Purchasing and Planning Group and the Manufacturing Engineering Group. This person is responsible for developing the team and advancing the skill sets of its members and providing leadership and direction to the organization. Incumbent must be aware of market conditions in pertinent supply areas both present and anticipated and be constantly alert for changing prices or conditions which may adversely affect sources of supply, the suitability of materials offered, as well as the delivery potentials of his source. The incumbent must evaluate, set priorities, and see that all requirements are handled to acceptable quality levels, customer service levels, and within cost objectives. The position requires quick, independent thinking and tactful behavior in the area of customer and vendor relations as well as the utilization of broad technical and commercial knowledge. Skills needed for this position are: 1. Broad knowledge of manufacturing operations, purchasing, planning/scheduling and inventory control. 2. Experience with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis and ISO9000 procedures. 3. Experience with Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing. 4. 5+ years manufacturing engineering management experience including manufacturing processes, material specifications, and costing. 5. Capital budgeting experience including ROI, payback and resource allocation experience. 6. MS Office software knowledge - Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Access. 7. SAP experience would be an advantage, experience with MRP is mandatory. EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB: Minimum bachelor’s degree with five years experience in manufacturing engineering and material control. APICS CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management) certification is a plus.
