Our Company
Micro Power is the global leader in portable power solutions for mission-critical equipment and provides custom battery solutions to leading portable medical, rugged handheld computing and commercial military equipment manufacturers. We design and manufacture custom OEM portable power products including battery packs and chargers, docking stations, charge cradles for industrial equipment manufacturers, medical device suppliers, and military markets.
This Position: Mechanical Engineer
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for all mechanical design and documentation aspects of battery packs, chargers, and docking stations along with the system level integration into the host system. Position provides technical input and renderings during product conceptualization and project planning phases. Works closely with Project Engineers, Project Managers, and Electrical Engineers to meet and verify design objectives during product development. Creates the documentation package elements for supply chain and product manufacturing activities. Provide input and guidance to lower level engineering.
Primary duties and responsibilities include:
Product Development & Sales Support:
1. Create CAD models and drawings of battery packs and charger assemblies, including components.
2. Perform dimensional stack-up and part tolerance analysis to insure manufacturability and product function.
3. Release product documentation into product data management and ERP systems.
4. Determine methods of prototype and production component fabrication and interface directly with suppliers for design trade-off analysis.
5. Perform design analysis and validation testing to insure product design compliance to requirements.
6. Support sustaining engineering with CAD updates to existing drawings and specifications as necessary.
7. Troubleshoot manufacturing related failures for design issues at incoming inspection, product assembly, and final functional test.
8. Work with suppliers and manufacturing to insure successful product transition from engineering design to production.
Experience:
Position requires industry knowledge: A minimum of 8 years in related design experience.
Education, Skills & Abilities:BSMEThis position requires U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.
Must be proficient with SolidWorks 2006, PDMWorks and some familiarity with ProE mechanical CAD systems. Extensive experience in injection molded part design and assembly methods such as ultrasonic welding, adhesive bonding, and mechanical fastening. Experienced in integration of printed circuit assemblies (rigid and flexible) into plastic enclosures, electrical contact design, resistance welding of electrical conductors, and general mechanical assembly techniques. Product design experience with sheet metal, die cast, and machined parts.
Ability to accurately estimate duration, work, and costs for mechanical design activities in product development projects. Advanced understanding of good engineering documentation practices according to ASME Y14.100-2000. Thorough knowledge of problem solving and root cause analysis. Excellent organization, communication, and reporting skills. Motivated and able to work on several projects concurrently and willing to take responsibility to insure project success. Must be able to sit for long periods of time at a computer workstation. Must be able to lift 20 lbs.
