NPI Engineer

The New Product Introduction Engineer is responsible for the efficient and effective transition of a product design “concept” into an effectively producible “Product”.   The NPI engineer is the key interface between the customer/design development team and the production team. In order to ensure the product can effectively be produced in a repeatable and cost effective manner, the NPI engineer conducts design analysis and consulting to ensure the design meets the minimum requirements for manufacturing, test, repair ability, quality, reliability, service, and of course cost.

As the main interface, and the first technical production person to become involved in a product design, the NPI engineer will manage all technical aspects of the product.  This includes ‘project management’ activity related to the development, prototyping, qualifications and release of all product designs, as well as associated processes required to manufacture the product.  If new equipment technology is required, he/she will be key in driving the development, either personally or through other technical support teams such as manufacturing, test or quality engineering.

The NPI engineer is ultimately responsible for ensuring the product meets all cost, quality and delivery targets, and therefore will personally conduct and support all pre-production and prototype product builds, as well as process qualifications.  They will “own” the product until it is at a state of maturity that the product and processes can be reliably transitioned to a “sustaining” manufacturing environment and support teams.
