About the job 

Master PC Board Layout Designer -- Uses in depth knowledge of Mechanical, electrical and thermal technologies to design high density PC Boards using Mentor Graphics design tools (Mentor DA, BS, RE, CES, DxDesigner and Expedition). Works with many inputs and constraints including layout, electrical, reliability, manufacturing and industry standards to meet R&D and Production requirements. These are being driven by electrical performance and manufacturability of the board while meeting the project schedule commitments. Gathers design information from multiple sources including engineer's verbal input, schematics, mechanical data, net lists and existing CAD Data.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform PCB Design and layout of complex, high-density SMT, Digital and high frequency RF designs.
Work from schematics, diagrams, sketches & oral instructions to design experimental or Proto type PCB’s that meet Engineering requirements.
Demonstrate and incorporate excellent routing skills for multilayer, high density, high speed digital or RF PCB Designs. These designs may contain many of the following challenges:
Large layer count (12-22 layers),
Large pin count BGAs (>1000 pins) (may require use of IO Designer or other signal swapping methods to improve signal rout- ability)
Micro and blind/buried vias,
Large numbers of matched length differential pairs and bus length matching (requires use of CES)
Complex ground and power plans for impedance control, radiated signal suppression, crosstalk signal contamination and ground/power current management,
RF shapes and micro-strip or xxx signal traces,
Challenging thermal design from the instructions of the EE and ME engineers.
Incorporating DFT (Design For Test) requirements
Apply electrical and Mechanical experience and knowledge to designs as it pertains.
Work closely with R&D Teams during the PCB Design phase of product development. Participate in Engineering Design Reviews. Create Assembly drawings, BOM’s and manufacturing data.
Work Environment: TSO is a global organization covering most geography’s in the world. The sun never sets on TSO. PC Designers are expected to operate independently within an interdependent global team. Design Services managers are not at each site which means individuals must work in an environment with little to no direct supervision. Our success depends on engagement with R&D project teams and delivering designs on schedule at the highest level of quality. To be successful a designer must:
Be capable of independent and self directed work using collaboration tools to meet customer deadlines and customer commitments. Designers must feel comfortable and able to work in an environment with no direct supervisor on site.
Be able to work flexible hours, off shift, and be available to work overtime to meet a customer commitment.
Effectively manage multiple designs and multiple priorities at one time. (Multi-task to effectively utilize time spent waiting on information or reviews)
Communicate effectively with team members and managers to facilitate workload balance. This includes working internationally across multiple time zones and cultures.
Travel maybe required in or to the US, Europe and Asia for training or addressing customer requirements.

Operating Environment
The individual in this position needs good verbal and written communication, operational, and process management skills. Further, to be successful this individual needs to work cross functionally within global teams and be very flexible with respect to working hours and open to international travel. Success and growth will be directly correlated to the ability to assume accountability and exhibit drive and determination to meet the business requirements of our R&D customers.
About you 

Skills/Experience:
AA/AAS in Electronic Engineering/Mechanical Design or equivalent education and experience will be considered.
5+ years experience in high density, multi-layer PCB layout and Design.
Ability to communicate with and understand engineer's requirements for the schematic, layout, and other engineering electrical and mechanical constraints.
Knowledge of both manufacturability and testability requirements.
Expert in the use of Mentor Board station and Expedition.
Valor Experience (Manufacturing Design Rule Checking tool) is a plus.
Experienced with the types of designs described in Duties and Responsibilities above.
IPC Certified or demonstrated knowledge of the IPC standards.
