PLC Reliability Engineer

Brief DescriptionThe PLC Reliability Engineer is responsible for reliability testing and failure analysis of chips in Infinera's Planar Lightwave Circuit department. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the telecom-grade reliability of PLCs, driving ongoing reliability improvement activities and implementing screens and surveillance programs to achieve the same. He or she will also be responsible for driving failure mode analysis, root cause determination, and corrective action.

DescriptionEssential Functions / Key Responsibilities:
Initiate accelerated reliability life-tests to quantify expected failure rates of PLC chips, and to demonstrate adherence to Telcordia and other quality standards Execute failure mode analyses on returned and failed PLC chips. Determine root cause of failures and drive implementation of corrective actions. Track returns and assure documentation and timely internal and customer reporting meeting department and corporate standards Maintain FMEA log documenting PLC failure modes. Support development of a comprehensive PLC reliability model Work with design and fab engineers to drive ongoing reliability and quality improvements through design and process modifications Specify qualification plans for ongoing design and process improvements to ensure compliance with product reliability requirements Develop and implement screens and purge tests as necessary to assure the reliability of PLC chips Work with engineering and production staff to establish ongoing reliability surveillance and certification programs Specify implementation of ESD and other safeguards as required to meet device reliability standards Work with engineering staff to review out-of-family and out-of-control action plans consistent with department and corporate reliability standards Support pedigree review of deliverables prior to shipment Report on reliability metrics and initiatives at regular operations and ad hoc meetings
Education / Experience:
BS/MS with 5+yrs related experience or Ph.D. is required Prior experience with failure mode analysis is required Prior experience with telecom reliability testing and standards is highly desired
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Knowledge of device physics and experience with failure modes in optoelectronic devices is required Working knowledge of statistical analysis methods and software tools for data analysis is desired Superior verbal and written communication skills are required Strong attention to detail is required Occasional travel to vendor sites and corporate offices is required Strong MS Office skills are desired
