Electrical Engineer- Industrial Business Unit
Essential Functions
• Participate in a multidisciplinary engineering team that develops industrial products based on flat-panel direct view and projection displays
• Support the generation of design documentation, including product technical descriptions, Bills of Materials, test procedures and reports, Product Change Notices (PCNs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s) utilizing the Planar Product Design Management (PDM) system
• Work within Planar’s New Product Introduction (NPI) and Project Management processes and support the introduction of new products into a manufacturing environment
• Design, test, document and support hardware designs including, but not limited to video interfaces, displays backlight drives and data/firmware processing platforms; define, design and integrate peripheral device firmware software for optical and electrical touch-screen input devices
• Design, test, document and develop firmware as required to support the hardware platforms
• Characterize (test and document) elements of IBU products including, but not limited to, displays, touch interfaces, backlights and electronic assemblies
• Assist in the development of proof-of-concept units associated with program pursuit activities
• Design, conduct and support DVT (design verification testing) of new or modified products
• Investigate product failures of returning, in-warranty products from the field, provide experimental approaches to determine the root cause, and implement corrective actions or preventative designs
• Assist in engineering applications support to IBU sales force and customers
• Must be committed to the IBU strategy, Planar’s strategic priorities, Planar’s LAMP system and Planar’s values
• May collaborate in the preparation of technical proposals for program pursuits
• May participate in the integration and field installation of IBU products
Qualifications
• B.S.E.E. or equivalent degree
• Minimum of three years working experience in a display-related development or a manufacturing environment as an Electrical Engineer
• Working knowledge of digital and low frequency analog design, as well as of analog communications protocols i.e. RS-232, USB and video interface standards, and interfaces (DVI, LVDS, and NTSC)
• Demonstrated experience with display development (performance parameters, optical films and filtering) for demanding environments is desirable
• Familiarity with LED inverter design is desirable
• Familiar with problem solving and experimental design preferred
• Demonstrated technical writing skills required (specifications, design documentation, test reports)
• Preference for the ability to successfully lead technical projects
• Occasional domestic travel to provide technical support on projects, project reviews and customer integrations may be required
• Position is located in Beaverton, Oregon at Corporate headquarters
