Power Electronics Engineer
K2 Energy Solutions, Inc., a leading battery technology company, has a career opportunity for a power electronics engineer in Henderson, Nevada. The successful candidate will work in a team environment composed of Electrical, Mechanical, and Chemical engineers developing cutting edge battery management products. The power electronics engineer is responsible for developing, designing, and troubleshooting the electronic components required to operate K2’s battery management systems. The job will require a significant amount of domestic and international travel.
Job Requirements
Up to two years of hands on experience in at least three of the functional areas listed in the qualifications section below. System design and simulation of power electronic circuits from 0.1 to 20 kW using IGBT and MOSFET power devices; Printed circuit board (PCB) design; Electrical/Mechanical/Thermal design and layout design of power conversion assemblies The ability to understand firmware in current product lines and industry standards. Experienced in the design and development of applications with high voltage DC Work with other team members, including Operations, QA, and Sales and Marketing, to ensure timely delivery of projects. Thorough knowledge of computer and online tools to enhance productivity. Have an general knowledge of how batteries are manufactured, how they function, and how they are used. Possess job skills that include: high energy & a strong work ethic (the job requires more than 40 hours per week), leadership skills, “hands-on” approach, knowledge of industrial equipment, strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, data driven decision making, a strong desire to learn, the ability to work independently, excellent team skills, and the ability to drive a project to completion. Willing to relocate to the Henderson, NV area.
Qualifications
Education – BS/BSE or higher in Electrical Engineering.
Functional Experience Areas
Experience in real-time embedded systems, device drivers, communication protocols, and hardware and software integration.
Battery Pack Balancing, Firmware, and Controls Design – hands on experience developing and producing pack circuit boards, balancing circuits, and/or control circuits. Experience writing firmware for pack control functions.
Development Language /Tools - C/C++, ARM Assembly, TMS470 Assembly, TI C Compiler (DSP), Visual C++, 8051/ AVR MCU Assembly Language, Flash Programming.
Operating Systems/Target Platform:- Linux, HP-UX, NT/XP Windows, TI TMS320C203 DSP
Communication Protocols - USB, I2C/SMBus, CANBus, GPIB, SPI, TCP/IP, RS232, RS422/485
Hardware Engineering - Understanding of and implementing Analog and Digital Designs, FPGA Design (Desirable but not required), Optimization, and Manipulation.
