Principal Firmware/DSP Engineer / 08-09810

Position Description:Broadcom is developing solutions supporting the next generation of 3G and 4G high-speed mobile technologies. As part of the CellAirity™ Mobile Platform, Broadcom offers a family of HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access), WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple-Access), EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution), GPRS (General Packet Radio Services) and GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) baseband processors for use in cellular handsets, PC cards and other wireless-enabled consumer electronics.The primary responsibility of this role is to design, integrate, and debug DSP firmware for cellular handsets. Particularly: * Design algorithms/functional specification of various modules.* Implement algorithms on C-based simulation platforms to evaluate performance.* Integrate and debug the modules on development systems and target hardware.* Document designs in a detailed and readable manner.* Provide customer support and field debugging as required.Qualifications:Typically requires a BS degree and 12 years of experience, an MS degree and 9 years of experience or a PhD and 6 years of experience.Strong firmware development and debugging skills are mandatory.Significant hands on experience in DSP Firmware development: Ceva DSP background is preferred.Cellular handset development background is a strong plus: GSM, GPRS. EDGE experience preferred.Audio system design, in particular for mobile applications, is preferred. Experience in implementing system simulations is preferred. Knowledge in key baseband modules for wireless cellular communication systems such as channel coding, equalizer, etc. preferred.Knowledge of electrical and RF hardware preferred. Proficiency in the following tools:* C/C++ and Assembly language* Matlab is a plus* Source code control and bug tracking systems* In Circuit Emulators and logic analyzer
