We currently have an opening for a Process Development Engineer with our Solid State Lighting group.Department: SSL R&D
Schedule: 1st Shift, manufacturing + 1 weekend day (5 day scheduled work week)

Position Description
Cree is looking for a self-motivated, hands-on engineer to develop solid state lighting solutions. You will work with a team of scientists, engineers, and technicians to develop and transfer into production new LED-based solid state lighting products and processes that will minimize cost, enhance quality or performance, and/or increase throughput. The successful candidate will be a resourceful problem solver able to work around technical obstacles with the resources at-hand and will be adept at the implementation of practical solutions to complicated problems

Responsibilities
· Play an integral role in the development, design, and fabrication of solid state lighting solutions through both individual and team contributions.
· Successfully translate small scale prototype processes into high yield/high volume manufacturing processes.
· Interact with raw material and tool vendors and off-shore manufacturing.
· Provide training to other personnel to improve over-all capabilities and knowledge.
· Develop, test and document workable procedures, presented at a level suitable for the intended users.
· Develop or possess hands-on expertise with a wide variety of tasks related to automated and manual LED assembly processes. (e.g. wire bond, die attach, encapsulation, etc.).

Position Requirements
· BS/MS in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or other technical field
· 0-5 years of semiconductor or package product/process development preferred. Entry level candidates or candidates with other technical experience are encouraged to apply.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills
· US Citizen or Green Card holder
· Willing and open to travel - both domestic and international.
· Demonstrated project management abilities.

Desired
· Hands-on experience or expertise in one or more of the following technical areas:
· Encapsulation materials
· Phosphors and phosphor application methods
· Package material selection
· Experience with LED sources.
· Experience with manual and/or automated LED assembly tools and processes.
· Experience with databases and data analysis tools (SQL, Access, SAS JMP, Excel, etc.)
· General knowledge of all aspects of LED packaging including vendors and materials.
