R&D Engineering Development Manager

In this position, you will be part of the R&D group and primarily responsible for releasing to Operations Fiber or DPSS products by leading the R&D team during the design phase, organizing the Qualification of the design and synchronizing the Operations group to start manufacturing the product. As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for executing the development of a new product using the Product Development Process (PDP) from the planning phase to release to manufacturing. All aspects of a new product include schedule creation and control, close work with Marketing and Operations to define market opportunities, manufacturing and sourcing strategies, status and information reporting to Senior management, and potentially customer liaison. As a team lead, you will be ensuring that the team is adequately staffed and working within a planned budget. Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to: - Providing leadership for the project team and key interfaces to the project- Identifying tasks, determining dependencies, identifying and requesting specific resources, communicating expectations to team members, obtaining task effort and duration estimates from team members, and creating and/or tracking the project schedule - Ensuring that resources with the appropriate technical skills are assigned; you will ensure that resource conflicts are minimized and that your project has correct allocations.- Assessing risks and developing contingency plan to mitigate them - Coordinating resources and tasks with other functions and departments- Providing technical support and program status to OEM customers- Joining the Research and Development Team within the Commercial Lasers Products Group in Milpitas, CaliforniaQualificationsYou should possess: a Masters or Ph.D with minimum of five years experience in the photonics business plus a minimum of two years experience in project management, and 2 to 3 years experience / background with lasers.Additional qualifications include: - Strong written and oral communication skills - Ability to work well in a diverse team environment - Experience developing lasers or photonics system - knowledge of MS Office is required and experience with MS Project is highly desirable
