Sr. Technical Writer

Advanced Energy is a global leader in innovative power and control technologies for high-growth, thin-film manufacturing and solar power generation.  Specifically, AE targets semiconductors, solar cells, flat panel displays, data storage products, architectural glass, solar grid-tie inverters and other advanced applications.

 

We are seeking a Sr. Technical Writer. In this position you will create technical documentation for new and existing products, including (but not limited to) technical user manuals, installation and operation guides, service manuals, and online help. You will also produce clear, concise, and technically correct documentation in the AE corporate template and according to corporate content and quality requirements. Working with product team, along with interviewing and interfacing with engineers in a design and production environment will be required. Producing of documentation is in a single-source environment in both FrameMaker and XML.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Independently prepares user manuals, installation and operation guides, online help, technical publications, and associated materials for new and existing advanced technology products
• Manages and documents projects from beginning to end while adhering to established corporate processes
• Researches available engineering information and interviews engineers and other technical personnel to gather necessary inputs
• Uses manual templates, corporate style guides, and process documents
• Proofreads and edits technical documentation
• Attends and participates in product development team meetings

SKILLS:
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience writing in a single-source environment (highly preferred)
• Experience using FrameMaker and conditional text (preferred)
• Hardware or equipment documentation experience
• Minimum 5 years of technical writing experience
• Meticulous attention to detail
• Exceptional organizational abilities
• Ability to handle multiple, concurrent projects with shifting priorities
• Ability to manage projects from planning to final phases
• Ability to work independently and as part of multiple teams
• Ability to gather and organize information from various sources and individuals
• Ability to grasp advanced technological concepts quickly and translate them for appropriate audiences
• Ability to analyze audiences and identify appropriate language, format, and content for those audiences
• Ability to edit technical documents for accuracy, style, grammar, and adherence to corporate guidelines.

EXPERIENCE:
Essential:
• Five years of technical writing experience.
• Project management (independent management of projects from beginning to completion)
• Equipment or other highly technical documentation experience
• Writing for and publishing for both print and online
• Experience working with Adobe FrameMaker and FrameMaker templates
• Experience writing in a single-source environment

Desirable:
• Experience with XML or SGML and DITA

EDUCATION:
Essential:
• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Journalism, or a related and applicable field.
• Master’s degree preferred.
