Position: SYSTEMS INSTALLATION SR. STAFF ENGINEER I Status: Exempt Relocation: No Travel: Much Job Number: 15076 Location: Bothell, WA Date Posted: Apr-14-2008 Summary Of Position:Lead the design and development of in-flight entertainment mechanical installation engineering documentation to support airline customer requirements. Documentation includes aircraft mechanical design, structural assemblies and wire routing installations, etc. Responsible for mechanical design of engineering projects within the Systems Installation group; from systems integration to installation. Design installations to route cables. Design new support structures to support system boxes. Duties:Lead the design and development of in-flight entertainment mechanical installation engineering documentation to support airline customer requirements. Aircraft mechanical design documentation includes structural assembly drawing and wire routing installation drawings (design tools include Pro-E and Auto Cad) Engineer and guide the core Engineering team with the mechanical system designs for new aircraft production and retrofit applications. Support Program Management, Certification, Marketing and other departments to coordinate program requirements. Provide support for customer meetings, PDR?s, CDR?s, aircraft surveys and aircraft installations, etc. Review new products and provide feedback to Management. Track program design schedules and coordinate with other organizations to ensure on-time design deliverables. Work with external engineering groups to integrate third-party vendor equipment with our systems. Guide core Engineering team in mechanical/structural/wiring integration and customer coordination. Guide core Engineering team and engineer projects from a mechanical/structural/wiring and integration design standpoint. Train staff for Systems knowledge and design criteria to support mechanical/structural/wiring design and aircraft integration. Work distribution to core Engineering team as required to support customer programs. Provide guidance and direction for problem solving to core Engineering team, delegate workload and provide project status. Must be able to manage multiple projects and monitor project schedules to ensure on-time delivery. Must be a highly motivated individual. Must be an initiator of making changes for improvement. Must have the ability to understand group operations from a high level. Must be able to stand in and represent the department in meetings and telecons, etc. when required. Will have extensive verbal and written communication with customers, internal departments and sub-vendors to support engineering and manufacturing efforts. Position also requires communication with airline customers, aircraft manufacturing design groups and third-party suppliers. Position requires up to 30% travel to support coordination of meetings, aircraft surveys and installations. Will act as department focal in cross-departmental task teams and coordination meetings, etc. Qualifications Required:BSEE or BSME and minimum of 7 years of mechanical design experience in the aircraft industry and a minimum of one year Lead or Supervisory experience or 10 years mechanical design experience in the aircraft industry for non-degreed individuals and experience that crosses multiple disciplines. Experience with the operational aspects of Engineering departments. Must have a high degree of understanding of airline regulatory guidelines and aircraft design requirements. Must have extensive knowledge of sheet metal designs and aircraft wire routing requirement. Knowledge of Auto CAD and Pro-E or other 3D modeling design tool. Must be able to apply knowledge of equipment and wire installation requirements to develop unique structural/wiring designs. Must use effective time management to handle multiple projects. Must be able to work in a team environment and accept required roles and responsibilities. Must have ability to work independently and be assertive. Must be able to lead installation team to resolve issues during on-site aircraft installation supports. Must have high degree of understanding of aircraft and avionic terms. Must have excellent communication and written skills. Ability to travel internationally and domestically. Must be able to operate in confined spaces for extended periods. Ability to endure sitting, standing, bending or twisting for extended periods. Ability to cope with environmental conditions which may include exposure to congestion and varying noise levels.
